MAN UTD'S CHAMPIONS LEAGUE MARCH…

21 April 2009 - Manchester United’s late two goal surge against Bayern Munich in the 1999 UEFA Champions League final is legend for all football fans but few realized they pulled off a similar escape against Juventus in the semifinal second leg on this day in soccer history.

Despite all the domestic success under manager Sir Alex Ferguson the one piece of silver that had eluded the Scotsman was a UEFA Champions League title but that would change in 1999.

After drawing 1-1 in the first leg at Old Trafford, the Manchester United faithful knew a good start was critical as the Red Devils had never won in Italy in European competition in the past.

But it was Juventus that started fast and were up 2-0 on a brace from Filippo Inzaghi in the opening 11 minutes at the Stadio delle Alpi in Torino.

The tie was certainly over…or was it?

Captain Roy Keane gave the Man U fans hope with his 24th minute finish and the visitors were back level after 34 minutes after a Dwight Yorke equalizer. The second half would be for all the marbles and both teams came out looking for the winner.

Andy Cole delivered for United with his 84th minute finish.
